Forward observation
Scanning the environment ahead of the vehicle.
SONAR / ACOUSTIC IMAGING
Navigation support when the camera is not enough.
Cerulean forward-looking sonar for observing the environment ahead of the ROV, including in poor visibility.

THE SYSTEM IN PRACTICE
Omniscan FS acoustically observes the area ahead of the vehicle. The scan is built through sensor movement: it should not be confused with an instantaneous forward-looking multibeam image.
In turbid water it can complement optical imaging. ROV mounting, orientation and movement must support data interpretation in SonarView. The 100 m and 300 m variants have different nominal depth ratings.

Useful information when optical visibility is limited.
Can be paired with a DVL and SonarView display.
CONFIGURATIONS, EQUIPMENT AND DATA
The sensor follows forward, reverse, lateral and rotational ROV movement. Forward and side scanning are observation and navigation tools with different geometries. Configuration photographs include ten-thruster ROVs, dual FS units and SonarView displays.
The reference range is 120 m; the previous specification was 100 m. The table distinguishes versions by operating depth: sonar revision and equipment are confirmed in the proposal.
| Frequency | 450khz |
|---|---|
| Range resolution | Up to 1/1200 of the range setting |
| Maximum ping rate | 20 pings per second up to 30 m range, then dependent on range and sound speed. |
| Beam height | 45° |
| Power consumption | 10–30 V (5 W minimum) |
| Range | 120 m; previous specification 100 m |
| Maximum operating depth | 100 metres or 300 metres, depending on model |
