THE SYSTEM IN PRACTICE

How it fits
your work.

Ping Sonar 2 measures the distance to a target within its acoustic beam. Pointed towards the seabed, it can provide a useful altitude reference during piloting or data acquisition.

On a surface platform, it can contribute depth measurements along the route. Building a survey requires associating readings with position and accounting for sensor orientation, movement and water conditions.

CONFIGURATIONS, EQUIPMENT AND DATA

A closer look.

From pulse to distance

The piezoelectric transducer emits an ultrasonic pulse and listens for echoes. Processing identifies the distance of the strongest return, often the seabed or a large target. The full echo intensity profile over time is also available for a fishfinder-style display.

Sensor installation

The selected frequency helps separate operation from many onboard echo sounders; acoustic compatibility between instruments still requires checks on the vehicle and in the operating environment.
